Here is a good one for you.
Have you ever had to figure out what the registry key is for your legitimate software product that you installed 3 years ago and have lost the CD sleeve or sticker? I have and it is a great pain.
Why not from now on add this information on to your asset information with in Asset HQ. If you put it in the additional information fields such as Asset number or such then it is kept private and not disclosed.
With software we do recommend that you are careful about the licensing rules if you list the items for lending.
